That Bethlehem baby, though!

When C.S. Lewis stated, “Once in our world, a stable had something in it that was bigger than our whole world,” his reflections were spot on. Our human intellectual capacities find it difficult imagining the infinite Creator clothing Himself in flesh. And yet, here was the “dawn of redeeming grace” as the world renown carol, “Silent Night,” suggests. The next words flow with “Jesus, Lord at thy birth!” But who in this wide world of ours recognizes the Bethlehem babe in this manner? Lord? Even at His birth?

And so as our family watched and listened today to three very prominent world leaders give their Christmas discourses to their respective peoples, it was evident that only one of them recognized Jesus’ birth for what it really was. That figurehead of one of the world’s most powerful nations referenced the Apostle John, proclaiming that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (1:5).

The Light of the world shines on through those in whom He has become Lord at their rebirth. Have you made room for His redeeming grace in your life? That Bethlehem baby, though!!
